About

This is a blog dedicated to #FOAM; free open access medical education. There is a ton of excellent free resources out there, mainly EM and critical care focused. I wanted to try to reframe some of whats out there focused on internal medicine.

What is a flea?

A flea is a derogatory term for internal medicine doctors and residents. There are various reasons I found online. Some claim because we always have stethoscope around our necks like a flea collar. Others say because IM Docs swarm around sickness and death like fleas. I think that 2nd explanation has to do with IMs focus on every detail and lab value. I’ll take that as a good thing… thus foamflea.
